best bed: The Bvlgari Hotel Milano, Milan, Italy

Updated: Oct 30, 2021

Opulent, serene and a magnet for the fashionista crowd, the Bvlgari Milano was the company’s first venture into hotels back in 2004 (there are now 6 with a few more in the pipeline). And though it is a joint venture with Marriot there is nothing chainy about this wonderful spot. The Bulgari brand started with a single jewelry shop opened by silver smith Sotirios Voulgaris in 1884 Rome. Somewhere along the way he changed his name to Bvlgari. His clean designs were a hit. That history carries over to the elegant contemporary design of the hotel. The furniture is Italian, the large bathrooms of Zimbabwean black marble, bronze & granite and the sound proof windows are glass from floor to ceiling. The 50’s building is tucked away on a lovely, quiet cul-du-sac in the heart of the Brera, Milan’s artistic quarter. Oversized images from the Bvlgari archives decorate the walls, serving as another reminder of just how glamorous this company has always been. The restaurant menu, curated by Michelin 3-star chef Niko Romito, features Italian classics with a twist. Eating in the garden is a must, unless of course it’s winter. This extraordinary corner of Eden dates from 1305 and is the most spectacular place to enjoy Chef Romito’s Codfish potato mayonnaise with bell peppers, a dish designed exclusively for the Bvlgari. Make sure to note the fireplace in the lounge…it weighs 15 tons!

Number of Rooms: 58

Sweet Suite: The Bvlgari Suite not because it is huge or has two bedrooms or even because the contemporary interior was designed by famed architect Flaviano Capriotti but because of the private rooftop garden with 360-degree views over the city and the dream worthy bathtub carved from a single piece of Turkish Bihara stone.

Favorite Thing: Aperitivo in the garden...incredible snacks (no need for dinner), divine cocktails, gorgeous space and the most glam people. I sat solo sipping, watching and fantasizing! Perfect evening!

Near By: Pinacoteca di Brera, Via Montenapoleone (the luxury shopping area), La Scala, The Duomo, Botanical Gardens… Milan is a terrific walking city, and the hotel is in a wonderful slightly off the beaten path residential neighborhood

Amenities: Spa with gold mosaic pool, glass fronted hammam, steam room, gym, pet friendly, restaurant, bar, chocolate boutique, excursions
